Rendang, as you may all know, is made from beef. It is cooked with coconut milk and spices originally from Padang as one of its local cuisines. They are typically spicy. According to traditional Minangkabau culture, rendang is served on ceremonial occasions to honor the guests. The recipe itself is passed down through generations from 1550s. Nowadays, rendang is recognized not only in Padang but also in other regions as more and more Minang restaurants are established throughout Indonesia and even other countries.
